Vital Signs offers a comprehensive approach to organisational health, focusing on the human aspects that drive technical success. By aligning values, strengthening relationships, and ensuring performance measures support holistic goals, organisations can create environments where both individuals and the organisation can thrive. Vital Signs uses an analogy with those in the human body to measure an organisation's cultural health, with values being the organisation's temperature, relationships being its blood pressure, and performance being its pulse.
The alignment between individual and organisational values is crucial. Without sufficient buy-in and alignment, neither the individuals nor the organisation can thrive.
Effective communication and trust within an organisation are built on strong relationships. These relationships foster a sense of psychological safety, essential for a productive and positive work environment.
Traditional performance metrics focus on goal attainment, Vital Signs evaluates how well these goals align with organisational values and the strength of relationships. This perspective ensures that performance measures support holistic success.
The Vital Signs framework integrates these elements, moving beyond simple surveys and data analysis. It emphasizes understanding how people feel and aligning values, relationships, and performance goals. The framework is flexible to meet the unique needs of each organisation.
Vital Signs is delivered through workshops on each element. Staff are given the opportunity to share their views on each element. Senior leaders are asked how they view each element, and what they believe staff think. We compare and correlate the data collected from both sets of people.
A report is produced with the key issues arising from the work, including analysis of the data and clear written and graphical representation of the findings. It has recommendations on how to improve through clear next steps based on learning and evidence of what works to change culture in an educational context.
